Bacolod City Mayor Monico “Newks” Puentevella has called on all sectors to help the city government’s bid for the right to host some of the activities of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) ministerial meeting in 2015.
According to Puentevella, he wants to make sure that some of the events in the coming ministerial meeting will be hosted by Bacolod, which is competing against the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo, Davao, Cebu and in Metro Manila.
Puentevella said he is coordinating with Negros Occidental Governor Alfred Marañon Jr. to improve the chances of Bacolod and the province of grabbing the hosting of some of the activities of the APEC meeting.
The mayor is urging all sectors in the city, including members of the media, to drum up the readiness of Bacolod in hosting the historic and prestigious event.
“Iloilo is doing its best with the private sector, so we need to double up,” Puentevella explained.
The mayor said he is also coordinating with Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue and the tourism groups, claiming that they are on top of all the preparations for bidding of the said event’s hosting.
Puentevella further stressed that he wants to make sure that “we are at our best” during the presentation later this month.
He said there are about 400 to 500 foreign delegates expected to attend the APEC ministerial meeting./WDJ
