DOLE: There’s enough vacancies for Bacolod jobseekers

4,362 jobseekers stormed SM City Bacolod last May 1 to apply for jobs.

BACOLOD CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment told applicants of Labor Day jobs fair to wait while employment agencies and establishments are still processing their applications for possible employment.
This is the advice of DOLE provincial head Ma. Victoria G. Mondragon saying that employment of these applicants is certain since there is about 7,000 available jobs that need to be filled.
She said that local vacancies alone are enough to place the 3,587 qualified applicants out of the 4,362 registered jobseekers in the jobs fair, and about 2,136 of them are even nearly hired during that whole-day fair.
Employers and job agencies still need additional requirements like medical checkup and final interview for nearly hired applicants.
Mondragon noted that the 108 applicants hired on the spot (HOTS) doubled the last year’s record. She added that DOLE aims for an on-the-spot placement of applicants for every job fair it is conducting.
Public Employment Service Office (PESO) head Moises de la Cruz reported that most of the jobs applied were those for call center companies, manufacturing firms, marketing personnel, sales, service crews for fast food chains, and office staff.
Participating employers come from the different business sectors such as business process outsourcing companies or call centers, sales and service companies, overseas placement agencies, and a number of SM Group of companies.
Meanwhile, DOLE and PESO-Bacolod held another Jobs Fair last May 3 at the Gaisano City Mall to give more opportunities for thousands of jobseekers here in this city and the province of Negros Occidental./WDJ
